Blog Tour: Single Chicas by Sandra C. Lopez #interview #giveaway

Women's Fiction / Humor
Date Published:8/19/16

Perfection is a Barbie doll, and, unless you're looking for a guy with a fake smile, a hard head, and no genitalia, then you're better off NOT being perfect―Single Chicas

Single Chicas is a collection of stories about modern Latinas being in, out, and around the zany hurdles of relationships. One woman receives strange calls from a lonely soul, another seeks advice on how to love herself, and another wakes up in a parallel universe to a man she's never met. These chicas will make painstaking effort to survive the complexities with humor and grace. Once again, López dazzles audiences with her brilliantly candid craft. Smart, witty, and funny, these stories will explore the true endurance of singlehood.

 Interview

Is There a Message in Your Novel That You Want Readers to Grasp?
A: The concept behind Single Chicas is simply being free to be you as an individual. Most people who get involved in relationships often lose themselves and forget about their goals and ambitions. It’s very important that you never forget about yourself. It’s essential to be a “me” before becoming a “we.” Also, I want audiences to have a few laughs with these stories.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
A: Sometimes finding the muse or the time to write can be a challenge. At times, I find myself sitting my butt down and telling myself, “Okay, today you’re going to write something.” Sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn’t.

How many books have you written and which is your favorite?
A: I’ve written 2 novels and 1 short story collection. I guess right now my favorite would have to be Single Chicas because those girls are just so darn funny and relatable. They’re crazy chicas!

If You had the chance to cast your main character from Hollywood today, who would you pick and why?
A: Well, my main characters in Single Chicas are many, so it would be hard to cast them.

When did you begin writing?
A: Right after high school. That’s when I first started writing Esperanza with that raw, fresh teenage voice. In fact, this 1st novel was published WHILE I was still in college.

How long did it take to complete your first book?
A: About 4 years in college

Did you have an author who inspired you to become a writer?
A: I had many ranging from classics like Anne Rice and John Steinbeck to Sandra Cisneros and Luis Rodriguez.

What is your favorite part of the writing process?
A: The creating of story and characters, and molding them until they take a life of their own.

Describe your latest book in 4 words.
A: Chicas getting it done

Can you share a little bit about your current work or what is in the future for your writing?
A: Single Chicas is the first installment in the Single Chicas series. It’s a series about young, modern Latinas going through the hurdles of family, love, and life. I am currently working on the second in the series called Holiday Chicas. For more details on release date and events, please visit www.sandra-lopez.com

Blog Tour: Silver Threads by @BetteLeeCrosby #review

Women’s Fiction – Magical Realism
Date Published: September 14, 2016
Publisher: Bent Pine Publishing

On the day Jennifer Green was born a pile of stones was placed alongside her scale of life. A few were the dark gray of sorrow, but most were a pale blush color. The largest stone was the rose hue of a sunrise. That one would be placed on the scale the day she married Drew Bishop. Even more brilliant but a wee bit smaller was the pink stone glistening with specs of silver. That one would bring Jennifer a baby girl named Brooke. The Keeper of the Scale smiled. Seeing such happiness laid out before him was pleasing to his eye.

Since the beginning of time, he and he alone has been challenged with the task of keeping each person’s scale in balance. A bit of happiness and then a small stone of sorrow, until the lives he has in his charge are measured evenly.

You might think such power is universal, but it is not. There are silver threads that crisscross the landscape of scales and connect strangers to one another. Not even the Keeper of the Scale can control the events traveling through those threads; the only thing he can do is try to equalize the balance once it has been thrown off. There is nothing more he can do for Jennifer; now he must find the thread that leads to Drew if he is to have the love he deserves.

Review

This novel was different than I expected. It really walks the line between a few different genre's but I really liked that factor. I loved the ultimate lesson we learn by reading this novel. It is an emotional journey and I believe that we learn things about the characters and ourselves along the way. I am a huge fan of Bette Lee Crosby and her writing style. The way she weaves her tales is really inspiring. You're not just reading to escape, you're reading to feel!

BETTE LEE CROSBY, USA TODAY BEST SELLING NOVELIST

Award-winning novelist Bette Lee Crosby brings the wit and wisdom of her Southern Mama to works of fiction—the result is a delightful blend of humor, mystery and romance along with a cast of quirky charters who will steal your heart away.
(cont.)
“Storytelling is in my blood,” Crosby laughingly admits, “My mom was not a writer, but she was a captivating storyteller, so I find myself using bits and pieces of her voice in most everything I write.”
Crosby’s work was first recognized in 2006 when she received The National League of American Pen Women Award for a then unpublished manuscript. Since then, she has gone on to win numerous other awards, including The Reviewer’s Choice Award, The Reader’s Favorite Gold Medal, FPA President’s Book Award Gold Medal and The Royal Palm Literary Award.
Crosby originally studied art and began her career as a packaging designer. When asked to write a few lines of copy for the back of a pantyhose package, she discovered a love for words that was irrepressible. After years of writing for business, she turned to works of fiction and never looked back
