Interview
Is there a message in your novel that you want your readers
to grasp?
I love this question! Yes, I do have a message I hope comes
through in my book Those Who Seek God.
My prayer is that readers of all ages learn that seeking God (which is creating
a relationship with Him) isn’t hard or complicated. You can get to know Him by
asking questions, learning more about Him through the Bible, and talking to Him
through prayer.
Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your
writing?
The thing I find most difficult when writing is keeping it
organic. If I try to sit down and write for a certain period of time daily, I
easily burn out. I have learned that the creative side of me is most important,
so I write when I am excited. I spend a lot of time in my head before I put
anything to paper!
How many books have you written and which is your favorite?
Those Who Seek God
is my very first book and it is currently my favorite! HA! It may be my first
but will not be my last! I’m already excited about Book 2!
When did you begin writing?
Writing a children’s book has been a dream of mine since I
was a teenager, but I didn’t get serious about writing until about four years
ago after my brother passed away. I realized how quickly things can change and
felt the nudge to get started. I am so thankful I did!
How long did it take you to complete your first book?
I had worked on my manuscript for six months then took a
break. Once I partnered with Lucid Publishing, it took about nine more months
to complete the project. They were extremely helpful, professional, and easy to
communicate with. I am looking forward to working with them again!
Did you have an author who inspired you to become a writer?
I would say that several children’s book authors inspired me
throughout the years! I truly love so many, but the people who inspired me the
most would be my own children. I wanted to leave this book as a part of our
family’s legacy that teaches God’s love to future generations.
What is your favorite part of the writing process?
I am not sure many writers would agree with me on this, but
I love the editing portion of the process. I had a fantastic editor who gave me
some wonderful things to think about and consider. I felt like she helped
expand my creative ability, and I will use that new knowledge when writing Book
2!
Describe your latest book in four words.
Charming, creative, kind, and true
Can you share a little about your current work?
I am currently working on Book 2 and I am so excited about
it! It will be a children’s book about the very first characters in Those Who Seek God, Swan and Duck! I
wanted to honor families who came together through foster care or adoption, and
Book 2 will be how Swan and Baby Duck became a family, including their entire
back story! The theme of the book will be from Psalm 91:4.
