BOOK # 4 in the JAKE CALDWELL SERIES
Crime Thriller
Publisher: Lakewater Press
Published Date: October 1, 2019
A vengeful drug lord. A vicious biker gang. A beautiful victim of a trafficking ring.
Nearly two years ago, former mafia leg-breaker Jake Caldwell had ruthless drug king Shane Langston staring down the wrong end of a pistol. Instead of pulling the trigger, Jake let the law handle it. Now Langston’s escaped from prison and is hell bent on killing the men who put him there—including their families.
As the body count rises, Jake and his best friend Sheriff “Bear” Parley follow the bloody clues and realize it’s not just Shane they need to stop. Jake will do whatever he can to protect the people he loves.
The fourth instalment of the award-winning Jake Caldwell series will have you biting your nails and praying you never have to make the trip to Asylum Road.
Interview
Is There a Message in Your Novel That You Want Readers to Grasp?
I
suppose it would be that despite crappy circumstances, you can strive to become
a better person. Your past does not have to define the person you become.
Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Scene
description. I think I write really good dialogue and actions, but I sometimes
have to remind myself to set the scene – what do we hear, smell, feel and see.
If I forget, my editors certainly remind me!
How many books have you written and which is your favorite?
Five.
That sounds kind of weird to say. I’ve written five novels. Well, technically
six, but the first one won’t ever be published and for good reason. Right now,
I think the forthcoming Asylum Road is my favorite, though the plotting of its
predecessor, Blackbird Road, is tough to beat.
If You had the chance to cast your main character from Hollywood today, who would you pick and why?
I
think Tom Hardy would be an excellent choice. Great actor, the right size,
build and look.
When did you begin writing?
I
started in my mid-twenties with a novel that went nowhere, then did nothing for
a decade, then wrote the book Jack & Diane and did nothing with it for a
decade when I couldn’t get an agent, then found it again and self-published it.
After that, I got the character idea for Jake Caldwell, wrote Poor Boy Road and
found a publisher who loved the product as much as I did. I wish I would have
started writing in earnest sooner in life.
How long did it take to complete your first book?
Probably
about six months from Chapter One to The End.
Did you have an author who inspired you to become a writer?
There’s a New York
Times Best Selling author in the early 1990s who inspired me to write, simply
because I thought their best seller was trash and I could do better. Turns out
I couldn’t! I suppose Stephen King gave me the greatest appreciation for the
craft of writing, and Lee Child and John Sandford helped me find the genre I
love the most.
What is your favorite part of the writing process?
Writing
dialogue. I had a Hollywood director tell me one time that I had a real gift
for natural sounding dialogue. He didn’t like my script all that much, but
liked how the characters spoke.
Describe your latest book in 4 words.
The
past can bite.
Can you share a little bit about your current work or what is in the
future for your writing?
I’m working on book
five of the Jake Caldwell series which will be called Husker Road. For those in
the Midwest, you can guess from the title that it will be predominately set in
Nebraska, specifically the town of Kearney which is where my wife is from. I’m
hoping it will be out in 2020 sometime.
