Date Published:05-04-2021
Brittany Nelson returns to the South Carolina Lowcountry to help her sister, Blake, run the family bed and breakfast and care for her three-year-old niece. Soon after, strange occurrences begin taking place. Brittany can’t shake the feeling that the ghosts of her family’s past haven’t been laid to rest, after all.
As she works to unravel how this is possible, she finds herself in the center of unfathomable events. But if the Nelson sisters know anything, life at Isle of Palms isn’t always a day at the beach.
Is There a Message in Your Novel That You
Want Readers to Grasp?
Whatever struggles you face, there is a
way to persevere. You don’t have to go it alone. Let your family and friends
help you along the way.
Is there anything you find particularly
challenging in your writing?
Finding the time to write is my main
challenge.
How many books have you written and which
is your favorite?
I’ve completed two, and I’m working on
Book Three in the series. I love both of them for different reasons. The
Haunting on Palm Court was my first, and the second book, Return to Palm Court,
is more polished. It shows me how far I’ve come in a short time. I look forward
to continuing to learn and improve.
If You had the chance to cast your main
character from Hollywood today, who would you pick and why?
Mackenzie Rosman, who was Ruthie in “7th
Heaven” would play Brittany. I happened to see a photo of her recently, and she
definitely has the right look.
When did you begin writing?
When I was 13, I landed my first newspaper
column. I’ve been writing professionally ever since.
How long did it take to complete your
first book?
I wrote the first draft in five months,
and it took me another year to polish and edit what I’d written.
Did you have an author who inspired you to
become a writer?
The late Dorothea Benton Frank - I fell in
love with her Lowcountry descriptions. I knew I needed to try my hand at
writing novels.
What is your favorite part of the writing
process?
When an idea spurs another idea. I love
the adrenaline rush when I’m on a roll.
Describe your latest book in 4 words.
Spooky Suspenseful Romantic Southern
Can you share a little bit about your
current work or what is in the future for your writing?
I’m writing Book Three in my Isle of Palms Suspense series. I’m
hoping to launch it this fall.
