"It's broken," our Healer says. "This world is broken.

It is not how I wanted it to be.

But I am bigger than all the brokenness.

I am bigger than all the evil.

And I am bigger even than death.

Come, take my hand and I will show you.

I will show you a beauty

you have never seen,

a peace you have never felt,

and a safe

You can't even imagine."

Interview

Can you tell us a little about the process of getting this book published? How did you come up with the idea and how did you start?

I never intended to publish a book!  Yet alone 3!  In 2014, my neighbor, a librarian, gave me a book that she thought I would like.  In it, a little girl, whose teacher gave her class the assignment of writing short poems/prose about their everyday life, wrote about all the huge, hard things going on in her life.  That seemed like a good idea, so I started doing that as a journal.  I now have over 800 poems, with some of them published in my 3 books. Safe in His Arms is my 3rd book.

What surprised you most about getting your book published?

Haha!  That people would even want to read it!  And then, that they really really liked it!  By the time my 2nd book came out, I already had people asking for a 3rd book!  But the most rewarding thing about the whole thing is that so very many people have told me about each of my books, already including this 3rd one, that they are a huge encouragement to them.  THAT is a special gift to ME!

Tell us a little about what you do when you aren’t writing

I really love to garden and over the last 10 years have turned my front & backyard into a huge garden with pathways, with no grass any more in the back, and only a little bit on the front edge of the front yard.  Gardening is my stress reliever!

As a published author, what would you say was the most pivotal point of your writing life?

This 3rd book.  My first 2 books tell about my journey in learning about being safe, since they were written not long after becoming safe.  Now, it has been over 10 years since I have been safe, and I have experienced lots of healing.  So this 3rd book shows where I am NOW, now that I know I AM safe and I have deep peace and joy, in spite of dealing with the hard things that have happened in my life.

Where do you get your best ideas and why do you think that is?

I write from my own experiences as I have been discovering hope and healing for myself.

What is the toughest criticism given to you as an author?

To be honest, I have not had anyone criticize my books.  At least not to me or that I know of in any other way.

What has been your best accomplishment as a writer?

Knowing that in reading my books, people are being helped to have hope for their own journey.

How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have?

I have enough poems at present to be able to do at least 2 more poetry books if I would choose to do that.  I also have been asked by someone about doing just a regular book about my life, but am not ready to do that at this point.  But I also have ideas for 3 different children’s books, to both write and draw the illustrations for.  But still thinking on those things.
