366 daily journaling prompts to help you find the courage, confidence and comfort to be exactly who you are.
What was your main drive to write this book?
Kate, a client of mine, came back into my studio to
collect her pictures. I told her how beautiful she was and went into detail
about why. She cried. She wanted to believe me, but she didn’t. I went home and
thought about her all night…how could I help her beyond that one day in my
studio? I invited her to journal with me and she accepted. I asked her a bunch
of questions about her confidence, happiness, and life. Six months later, I
found her responses tucked inside my journal. I asked her the questions again,
having committed to daily journaling. Her answers were different. Her confidence
and happiness did a complete 180! That was the motivation I needed to put my
book together after a few years of procrastinating.
What do you hope readers will learn by reading
this book?
I really hope that the readers of my book will learn to
love themselves unconditionally. My vision is that everyone will become aware
of who they are and accept that that person is amazing. There’s too much
‘perfection’ noise in the media. It’s time to shout a little louder about how
our differences are what make us beautiful. Nothing in this world is perfect…so
why do we always strive to be that?!
Did you do much research when planning this
book?
Most of my research was my own journaling experience. I
was able to figure out what questions were thought-provoking and had the
biggest impact on my personal growth, as well as what wasn’t working. I wanted
every page to be beneficial to ones’ self-love journey. I host a Facebook group
and would often post questions for discussion, which helped a lot, as well as
starting a journaling accountability group and getting feedback from them too.
Did you have any main people who helped you in
the process of this book or influenced you to write it?
As mentioned above, my client, Kate, was my main
motivation to start putting all my notes and thoughts together. Once I had put
everything in somewhat of an order, I hired another client of mine, Kat
Flannery, who is an author and book writing mentor. She has guided me through
every step of the process. I have so much appreciation for her and for other
authors, and I could not have done it without her. Kat put me in touch with
Nikolette Jones who designed and created my book cover and formatted the inside
of my book.
How long did this book take you to write from
initial thought to hitting publish?
I was 8 years old (or there abouts) when I first imagined
writing a book. For many years after that, I would think about it and move on,
not knowing what my book would be about. I didn’t even know if I wanted to
write fiction or non-fiction. In 2018, I enrolled on a government funded
business building program designed to help new entrepreneurs. Having been in
business already for 7 years at that point, I wasn’t eligible. However, they
worked with me to figure out how I could become a student of the program and
that’s when I finally decided that I needed to write my book. Fast forward a
couple of years, and that is when I actually started piecing everything
together. From writing notes to publishing…that was about 9 months.
Do you have plans to write more about this
topic or new topics?
As daunting (and overwhelming at times) as this was, I
loved every minute. It was an adventure and I have learned so much…not just
about writing and publishing books, but about self-love, psychology, and journaling.
I plan to write another book while I’m still on a high from writing this one,
and it will continue with the topic of self-love.
