INTERVIEW

Is There a Message in Your Novel That You Want Readers to Grasp?

Yes! Children and their caregivers should remember that ‘playing make-believe’ is not only a valid use of their time, but it’s essential to their overall development and well-being.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Picture books are a joy to write and publish. When writing novels, I find editing and revising to be tedious. It’s a lot more fun to write!

How many books have you written and which is your favorite?

I’ve written 4 picture books and 10 YA novels. It’s as hard to pick a favorite book as it is to pick a favorite child! If I had to choose, then it would be Clarity Castle, my pandemic book, because it encompasses my core beliefs. I believe everything is possible!

If You had the chance to cast your main character from Hollywood today, who would you pick and why?

My parents would love to see my books adapted for television or cinema and they are always telling me to call Disney and Netflix. J

I would cast Julie Andrews as Fairy Grandmother because she just oozes kindness and magic. As for Millie, it’s hard to pick someone because kids grow so fast, but I think someone like Mykal-Michelle who portrays Santamonica on Mixed-ish would be perfect

When did you begin writing?

When I was 15, I wrote my first ‘novel. It was for and about my friends and I’d write a chapter every week. I was sure I’d be a famous writer. Life happened and I didn’t put pen to paper again seriously until I participated in the 2019 edition of NaNoWriMo. The pandemic provided me with the time to edit and publish not only that first novel, but an entire series called The Evers Series. Since then, I’ve published three to five books per year.

How long did it take to complete your first book?

It took me 30 days to write my first book during NaNoWriMo. It took me a month to gather the courage to have a friend read it. I thought it was awful, but she said the story was great and if I could just fix the dialogue (in my haste, I had written it with dashes like a screenplay, it would be that much better. I hired an editor and we worked on it for three months. Six revisions later, it was ready for publication.

Did you have an author who inspired you to become a writer?

Not really. I was dyslexic as a child and would make up stories in my head because I couldn’t write them and reading was nightmare well into high school. Then one day, someone brought me to a library with books in English (I’m from a French-speaking family) and it was like the world opened up to me! I remember reading Judy Bloom at age 16 and loving her books. I also loved Danielle Steele, so it was a mixed bag!

What is your favorite part of the writing process?

I’m what you call a pantser, which means I writes by the seat of my pants. I don’t plan, or very little, and list write what comes. It’s thrilling to see words being pulled from the ether and appear on the page.

Describe your latest book in 4 words.

Creepy YA Ghost Stories

Can you share a little bit about your current work or what is in the future for your writing?

I’m currently working on new series in my Travelers Universe. The first book should be ready to release in April 2023.
