Never forget…
In September 2001, Tris Miles faces difficult choices. As Chief Pilot of Westin Charter Company, she’s mentoring Jannat, a brash young captain with limitless potential and a shocking secret. An offer to summit the peak of the pilot pyramid entices Tris to quit her job, but an old nemesis stands in her way.
Meanwhile, Tris juggles the men in her personal life. A friend-with-benefits pushes for commitment. An ex-boyfriend returns, still in love with her. Unexpectedly, Tris develops new feelings for someone who is already dear to her.
On September 11th, Tris and her crew depart Edinburgh for the United States. Just feet off the ground, they are mysteriously ordered back to the airport where they learn of a deadly terrorist attack on U.S. soil—using airplanes as bombs.
When Tris discovers that her best friend was a passenger on one of the planes that crashed into the World Trade Center, her world is shattered.
With a broken heart and her entire life up in the air, Tris doesn’t know where to turn. Can she find the courage to navigate her way home?
Is There a Message in Your Novel That You Want Readers to Grasp?
My latest novel, Flying
Home, is unique in that it offers the reader the pilot’s perspective of
what happened on 9/11/01. I was working as a professional pilot at the time,
and the events unfolded for me and my peers a bit differently. Of course,
everyone was horrified and devastated by the events, but the aftermath hit the
aviation and travel industries particularly hard. I want the reader to see,
first-hand, what it was like being a pilot on that day.
Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
The hardest part of writing novels is getting the
first draft down on paper. Once I have a full draft I can edit, then my true
creative juices start to flow. My first drafts are essentially very long,
detailed outlines. The feelings, emotions, settings, etc., usually come after
the first draft is written.
How many books have you written, and which is your favorite?
The FLYGIRL Trilogy includes three books, Flygirl, Angel
Flight and Flying Home. I’m incredibly proud of all three. My
favorite is my latest, Flying Home.
If You had the chance to cast your main character from Hollywood today, who would you pick and why?
My main character’s name, Patricia “Tris” Miles, is derived from the Latin
words for Noble Warrior. As such, Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen in The
Hunger Games) would be the perfect actress to play her.
When did you begin writing?
I’ve been writing ever since I could hold a pencil. I loved telling
stories as a child, and wrote a lot of poetry when I was young, for which I won
local New York city school district awards.
It was my dream to become a novelist. And now I am!
How long did it take to complete your first book?
My first book, Flygirl, took 25 years to complete. Yes, 25! I
first started taking notes for the book in 1994, and it was published in 2019.
Did you have an author who inspired you to become a writer?
Not really. I think I was born to write.
What is your favorite part of the writing process?
Finishing the book.
Describe your latest book in 4 words.
Honest. Heartbreaking. Gut-wrenching. Triumphant.
Can you share a little bit about your current work or what is in the
future for your writing?
My latest novel, Flying Home, is the book I was always meant to
write. No event in American history affected me directly the way 9/11 did. It not only cost almost 3,000 lives, but it changed
the course of at least that many more. I believe that my first two books helped
me write my third, what I hope is my best, and one all your readers will truly
enjoy as it brings them through hope, despair, tears, and triumph.
