Anna Grace is trapped in an abusive marriage with a man she does not love, forced to live on a Maryland plantation far from her Philadelphia home. An innocent cobalt blue medicine bottle becomes her way to freedom and love.
Beth flees an abusive relationship, making a fresh start on the coast of the Chesapeake. She discovers a love for sea glass, finding shards along the bay shorelines. With the discovery, she'll find a piece of a rare cobalt blue poison bottle that will lead her to unexpected love.
Both women will find their courage and the love they deserve, both tied to the simple cobalt blue bottle through time and tides.
A whisper from our soul lives on everything we touch, whether it is good or something more sinister. A tiny blue bottle changes the lives of all those who touch it, and its shards travel through time and tides to touch other lives and other loves through murder, adventure, love, and sea glass.
Is There a Message in Your Novel That You Want Readers to Grasp?
The message is probably that when you find a shard of sea glass, you are
picking up history and touching someone else’s story.
Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Time to write is my greatest challenge. I get up early (3:30) to write
for an hour or two before the family day begins. I also write each evening and
keep a journal with me at all times.
How many books have you written, and which is your favorite?
I have written eight books thus far. Two
are currently on the market, and six more are slated for publishing in the next
year. I’m not sure I have a favorite. There are favorite pieces to each book,
and they each speak to one or more of my passions.
If You had the chance to cast your main character from
I love to play this game
with each of my books! Dakota Johnson for Beth. She would play the character
well. I’m not sure about AnnaGrace – possibly Saorise Ronan. William Mosely or
Chris Hemsworth for Matthew and Josiah.
When did you begin writing?
I clearly remember writing stories in second grade. I wrote about
my favorite troll doll – Anne, in a series of stories.
How long did it take to complete your first book?
It took me about two years to write my first book.
Did you have an author who inspired you to become a writer?
Absolutely! Madeleine L’Engle, Alice Hoffman, Barbara Kingsolver,
Susan Cooper, Anya Seton, Rosamunde Pilcher are just a few…
What is your favorite part of the writing process?
I actually love all of it. Writing is falling in love, over and over
again -with your characters and with the story. The characters are an extended,
albeit imaginary, family. Sometimes it’s a love/hate process, but writing
brings me joy.
Describe your latest book in 4 words.
Time, Love, Sea Glass,
Can you share a little bit about your current work or what is in the
future for your writing?
I am currently working on the sequel to Tides of Blue. The working title is Currents of Blue. It revolves around different shards
of glass from the same cobalt blue poison bottle in Tides of Blue and
takes place in 1918 and 1968. I am also
collaborating with my son, James, on a cozy mystery series. It’s set at a
fictional botanical garden.
