Interview

Introduce yourself

I am Tyger Price. I consider myself to be a happy sort of person. I prefer hugs to handshakes. Sunshine to horror flicks. I am an extrovert introvert, or vise versa, depending on the day. I enjoy making new friends, and I do often–with perfect strangers–all the time. And I’d say my favorite word is Joy. I just love it.

I am the mother of ten children. Yep, ten. All mine, all my husband’s. (I know, I know. My hubby and I do know what causes it, we just need more hobbies. What can I say?) I have homeschooled my kids for over 23 years. But I’m on the downhill side. I’m currently teaching my baby to read. This year I get to celebrate my 30th anniversary. Diligence is kind of my second favorite word. Is it weird that writer’s have favorite words?? IDK

But I love writing. I have been doing it ever since I was able. It amazes me the kind of worlds that can open up through writing. It is one of the reasons why I have loved teaching my kids how to read. It is the key to worlds beyond measure. There isn’t anything you can’t do without the one, and nothing you can’t create without the other.

Even though my background is in children’s lit, I just liked kissing books too much. It was inevitable. My whole life has led me to what I now do. I create worlds in book form filled with adventure, intrigue, humor, and steamy-clean kissing scenes.

Tell me more about your journey as an author, including the writing processes.

I was an only child for the first 10 years of my life, so I quickly became a native of

the land of imagination and dreams. I would create worlds, play the hero, and push the boundaries of possibility. The only really good grades I got in school had to do with taking all that creativity and putting it on paper. I didn’t follow rules well enough to excel in the arts, but I could write. I could write.

A while after I got married, I graduated from the Institute for Children’s Literature in time to welcome my third child, then had seven more. Through it all, I wrote. I wrote stories & books for my kids and friends, curriculum & workbooks for our school, articles, blog posts - I even edited the newsletter for our homeschool association. But I really, really wanted to write a book to publish and hold in my hands.

Like most things I take a deep-dive into learning, I gathered several author’s approaches, all successful examples of where I wanted to be someday, and I dug into their processes, pulling out pieces that made sense for me and where I was at. Then I tried & tweaked a shuffle of those processes until I settled on something that brought the most joy and best results for me.

I love brainstorming by playing “What if…” I am a notebook junkie, so I geek out with each story by creating a book bible. I am also very visual, so I will create a whole Pinterest board around the characters, settings, creatures & situations pertaining to my book, then print out the pictures to fill my book bible with life and color.

I am a planner rather than a pantser, and I prefer to write whole scenes at a time rather than spurts. That way I can really get in touch with my characters and what they are feeling. That said, my characters frequently take over my scenes, taking them in a direction I didn’t foresee when the writing commenced. I will often argue with them, stating that we had a plan. They just smirk and say, “You know I wouldn’t do it that way.” Like in chapter ‘Tranquility Meadow’ of Bearing the Blades when Kendrick and Adianna are racing the unicorn and firemare to Ooflic. I really didn’t picture that scene going quite that way, but their personalities took over, and it still makes me laugh.

Tell me about your Book

Bearing the Blades is the first book in a series I am calling the Blades of Sheorae

(she-or-ay). Sheorae is a fantasy world in peril; danger is an everyday part of life. The seven nations of Sheorae (namely humans, elves, dragons, dwarves, ogres, animalia, and goblins) have been battling for the honor to wield the legendary Blades destined to unite their world for centuries, but the Blades evade the mighty only to fall into the tiny hands of a 4-year-old girl. Being raised by elves because of her unique capability to absorb and utilize the abilities of any creature she touches, the girl, Adianna, and the Blades are hidden away giving the child time to grow and train for what will inevitably be her fate. In the meantime, the dreaded Drokmar grows in strength, with his dalphene enticing villainy from the wicked and calling his rectors back from the dead.

Fourteen years later, Adianna rescues a wandering healer, Kendrick, who has been avoiding the conflict of the Blades for years with a passion. Still, the two are drawn together with an intensity they cannot resist, despite the fact that any physical contact with the opposite sex of her species results in searing pain for Adianna. But fate is calling to her, her quest looms before her, and she must form an alliance or her world will perish.

About the Author

Tyger Price, a homeschooling author/mother of ten, writes steamy-clean YA Fantasy – letting joy lead.

She just can’t bring herself to grow up; she just won’t do it! Being naturally drawn to children, she hopes people aren’t offended if she talks to their kids before speaking with them. She doesn’t mean it as a slight. She just can’t help it. She considers herself a “recovering addict” where babies are concerned and with ten children of her own, it is no wonder.

Being a native of the land of dreams and imagination, she strives to fill her life with joy while checking things off her ‘apoca-list.’ She loves tigers and butterflies and specializes in steamy-clean romances that make your knees quiver. Still, she goes where the joy and the story leads, delving into fantasy, mystery and adventure with expert precision.

Homeschooling a gaggle of kids keeps her reaching for her notebook or camera – writing down funny things they say and recording their many zany adventures. If there are quiet moments, she enjoys cuddles, sunshine and the scent of vanilla.
