INTERVIEW
Is There a Message in Your Novel That You Want Readers to Grasp?
There’s more than one side to every story. It’s easy to judge someone unfairly on the basis of what other people’s opinions may be. One should assess all the facts critically instead of leaping to blind conclusions.
Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Each character’s movement through space. Describing how they interact with their surroundings, especially when they’re completing multiple tasks at once. Also, writing dialogue that involves characters who share the same title, like a father and son who are both Mr. Samelastname to the person addressing them.
How many books have you written and which is your favorite?
I’ve written fifty so far, of which A Vengeful King Rises is my favorite. It’s the first book in a series that I’m really excited about, possibly because it’s different from what I’m used to writing it keeps me on my toes.
If You had the chance to cast your main character from Hollywood today, who would you pick and why?
My inspiration board actually pictures a young Richard Armitage in the role of Adrian Croft, but since Adrian is in his early 30’s, I’d have to go with a younger option if it actually came to casting. I’m thinking Liam Hemsworth might be an option if he can pull off that dark and dangerous attitude during auditions.
As Samantha, I would cast either Halston Sage or Gabriella Wilde since they come closest to how I envision Samantha looking.
When did you begin writing?
In 2007 but I didn’t start working toward my debut novel until 2010.
How long did it take to complete your first book?
I honestly don’t remember. I think it probably took a year from when I started until I was ready to submit it to publishers.
Did you have an author who inspired you to become a writer?
Julia Quinn. Though I was already set on writing a novel before reading any of her books, Romancing Mr. Bridgerton introduced me to Regency romance and inspired me to write my debut.
What is your favorite part of the writing process?
Finishing the first draft! I love that moment when I’ve finally finished putting the story together, when I no longer have to focus on getting words onto the page, when it’s done and I can move on to the edits. Reviewing is a wonderful process. That’s where I get to polish the story and make it shine.
Describe your latest book in 4 words.
Thrilling, different, gritty, captivating.
Can you share a little bit about your current work or what is in the future for your writing?
There are several more House of Croft books to be published so that will be my focus for a while. I’m currently reviewing the third book in the series, A Ruthless Angel Weeps, releasing January 28th 2025. This book picks up where A Tainted Heart Bleeds left off, with Adrian Croft under arrest and his wife, Samantha, on the run. Adrian has to face trial and Samantha needs to figure out how to save him from his sentence. There are relationship issues for them to work through plus human traffickers to be dealt with.
In short, it’s another roller-coaster adventure for the Crofts. Hopefully one that will keep readers hungry for more 😊
