What
was your main drive to write this book?
The driving force behind this
book was the conviction that people need to hear that real change is
possible. For years, I struggled with hidden battles, shame, and a sense
that I had drifted far from the person I was meant to be. When God met me in
that brokenness and began rebuilding me from the inside out, I realized how
many others were quietly walking the same road.
I didn’t write this book
because I had everything figured out — I wrote it because I finally stopped
pretending that I didn’t struggle. My heart was to offer people a roadmap for
transformation that is honest, practical, and hope filled.
What
do you hope readers will learn by reading this book?
I want
readers to walk away knowing that their past does not define their future.
Becoming is a process — one shaped by intentional choices, renewed thinking,
and the grace of God.
Beyond encouragement, I hope readers gain practical
tools:
- how
to renew their mind,
- how
to evaluate their life honestly,
- how
to build healthier habits,
- how
to walk through adversity with resilience,
- and
how to align their life with the purpose God has for them.
The book blends Scripture
with real-life experience, giving readers inspiration and actionable
steps they can apply immediately.
To help readers go even
deeper, I also created a free 10-week group study guide that accompanies the
book. It includes Scripture readings, reflection questions, and discussion
prompts. It’s available as a free download at blueprintofbecoming.com,
because I wanted churches, small groups, and individuals to have practical
tools for applying the book’s message.
Did you do much research when planning this book?
Yes —
though much of it wasn’t traditional academic research. It came through lived
experience, spiritual formation, and years of recovery work.
I dug into Scripture,
teachings on transformation, the psychology behind habits and identity, and the
stories of biblical figures who underwent dramatic personal change. I also
learned a tremendous amount through Celebrate Recovery, counseling, mentorship,
and the process of rebuilding my own inner life.
I wanted this book to be grounded in wisdom that has
actually been tested — not just theory.
Did
you have any main people who helped you in the process of this book or
influenced you to write it?
Absolutely.
Several pastors, mentors, and friends walked with me closely during the years
that shaped this message. Their honesty, encouragement, and accountability were
foundational.
My Celebrate
Recovery community also played a huge role. Walking in transparency with other
men gave me the courage to share my story publicly and to write a book that
invites others into their own transformation.
Several of
these people also reviewed early copies of this book and helped me fine tune
parts of it to ensure I was communicating the proper message.
Ultimately,
the most significant influence was the grace of God. His patience, correction,
and restoration shaped every page.
How
long did this book take you to write from initial thought to hitting publish?
The idea
began to form in 2019 at a Celebrate Recovery meeting, as I discuss in the
book. However, it wasn’t until 2023 that I really started reflecting on the
changes God was making in my life and the principles behind them. I began
outlining and drafting more seriously in 2024, and the whole process — from
concept to publication — took about a year.
Some
chapters came quickly; others required deep reflection and emotional honesty.
Writing this book wasn’t just a project — it was part of my own healing and
becoming.
Do you have plans to write more about this
topic or new topics?
Yes. Writing this book opened the door to several new
projects. I’m currently working on a second manuscript titled When Faith
Meets Fire, which explores how my faith has grown and sustained me during a
long season of unemployment. Over the past eight months, many people have asked
how I’ve remained calm, grounded, and trusting in God despite uncertainty, and
this manuscript is my response to those real-world questions.
I’m also in the early stages of two additional manuscripts
that God has placed on my heart, both centered on faith and recovery.
My goal is to continue creating work that strengthens
readers in their faith, character, and self-understanding. The Blueprint of
Becoming is only the beginning.
