A calculating cold-blooded predator closes in…

When a community has barely recovered from a ruthless serial killer six months earlier; now two more horrifying murders hit the radar again. It leaves police burdened with two of the most shockingly contaminated crime scenes ever documented in California’s law enforcement history. The Slayer works behind the scenes as a sinister puppet master, precisely pulling the strings, taunting the police without leaving any viable evidence, and orchestrating his killer hit squads.

The sheriff and district attorney bring in the best investigators. Reunited again, Dr. Chip Palmer, a reclusive forensic expert, joins DA Inspector Kate Rawlins to sort through the crime scene aftermath in search of the truth—all without a probable suspect or a solid motive. Complicating the investigation—sparks reignite between the two.

Ratcheting up the suspense, Chip suffers a nasty fall hitting his head, impairing his perception and giving him a mind-blowing ability for specific detailed recall. Palmer and Rawlins assemble an unusual team including a rookie detective, a forensic supervisor, and an ex-military operative turned bodyguard. After one of their own is kidnapped and the investigation is taken over by the FBI, the now rogue team must pull together their own resources—alone—with a killer waiting to take each one of them out. Scene of the Crime takes no prisoners and leaves everyone fighting to stay alive.

Interview

Is There a Message in Your Novel That You Want Readers to Grasp?

Scene of the Crime is a forensic mystery. I want readers to have fun with the investigations and all the details that ensue. I write what I enjoy the most, and trying to figure who did it makes for an entertaining read. There are some interesting forensic tidbits woven into the thrill of the chase, which is one of my favorite parts of writing a novel.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Every project can be challenging due to all the aspects of what goes into writing a novel. One of my personal challenges is to try to ratchet up my actions scenes. Trying to write something different or creative is also my challenge.

How many books have you written and which is your favorite?

I’ve completed ten books and three short stories to date. It’s tough to pick a favorite book because I love writing and enjoy all of the storylines. If my arm were twisted, I would say my favorite book is Dead Burn, an Emily Stone Thriller. It was the toughest book to write and I almost scrapped it at one point, but finished it and won a gold medal for action thriller from Readers’ Favorite.

If You had the chance to cast your main character from Hollywood today, who would you pick and why?

The main character is Dr. Chip Palmer, an eccentric forensic scientist and criminal profiler, who prefers to work alone but manages to be dragged into unusual crime scene investigations. I think that Matthew McConaughey or Robert Downy Jr. would be an awesome fit because they have the talent to become an interesting, quirky character and also be believable when the scene called for thriller action.

When did you begin writing?

I’ve been writing ever since I could write, hold a pen or pencil (even crayons), in order to get my thoughts or story down on paper. I’ve loved books and movies in every genre as long as I can remember.

How long did it take to complete your first book?

There was a significant amount of time that I thought about my first book and how I wanted to approach the storyline. From outline through editing, it took approximately eight months to complete my first professional book, Compulsion.

Did you have an author who inspired you to become a writer?

There isn’t one author who inspired me to become a writer—there are so many amazing authors to choose from. Some of my favorite authors are Jeffrey Deaver, Dean Koontz, and David Baldacci just to name a few.

What is your favorite part of the writing process?

I enjoy most of the writing process, except maybe editing—but I love researching and finding interesting or little known tidbits to enhance the storyline.

Describe your latest book in 4 words.

Action. Suspense. Love. Justice.

Can you share a little bit about your current work or what is in the future for your writing?

I’m currently working on my seventh Emily Stone Thriller, Dark Lies, which will be released later this year. I will also be releasing another Chip Palmer Forensic Mystery, Evidence of the Crime, which will be released early next year. There will be a few surprises along the way with the release of a couple of suspense Novellas.
