Baptism: is it from men or from Heaven?

This is the same question Jesus asked the Pharisees in Matthew 21:25 and the same question we must answer today.

This is a book for the committed follower of Christ and not the casual inquirer. It is an examination into the comprehensive truth of what the Bible teaches regarding God's administration of baptism upon His people.

Mark David Cooper performs a deep analysis of God instilling His grace on His followers through a fivefold baptism: living water, the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, fire, and Christ's blood. He challenges the reader to move past common, elementary understandings and grasp the mature, biblical concept of one gracious (fivefold) baptism from God.

After reading this book, the reader will appreciate the impact of what God does for us through His lavish grace.

Interview

What was your main drive to write this book?

Through the many years of attending church, studying the Bible, and having the responsibility of teaching the truth from God’s Word, I struggled with the illogical inconsistency taught by mainstream Christianity regarding baptism. The teaching in the church today says that God’s salvation through Jesus is free and a gift. But, because of a human developed doctrine the church has adopted a position requiring people to participate in a physical water action called baptism. The conflict between a free gift and having to perform a physical action does not make logical sense. So, I sought out to discover what the Bible really says about this term “baptism.”

What do you hope readers will learn by reading this book?

What God does for us that we cannot do for ourselves. God has already done the work for our salvation through His Son, Jesus the Messiah. What Jesus did on the cross and resurrection is the completed work of our salvation. Our only responsibility is to follow the Lord, He has already done the work. There is no need for any additional physical action to “get” salvation. Mainstream “Christendom” has propagated the requirement of a physical water action in order to be part of the “family.” This book takes an expanded view of God’s baptism and what He does for us.

Did you do much research when planning this book?

This book took many years of studying and researching the concept of baptism and how it is much more than just a single physical water action. Through the years of working on this book, I taught the concepts and content to many different study groups. Many hours were spent in libraries and on the internet, reading books, commentaries, and manuscripts devouring the magnitude of writings on the topic of baptism.

Did you have any main people who helped you in the process of this book or influenced you to write it?

My wife played a critical role in this book. Her support and feedback helped shaped the final product. She was a great source to ensure the veracity of this writing was aligned with the Word of God.

How long did this book take you to write from initial thought to hitting publish?

This work took a process of around 40 years, studying, researching, and teaching the concepts to multiple study groups both domestic and international. The feedback and responses from teaching this material have been instrumental toward the evolution of this book.

Do you have plans to write more about this topic or new topics?

Baptism of Grace evolved from teaching multiple Bible Studies in different venues over many years. Currently, I have 6 Bible studies with completed notebooks. This work could potentially evolve into another book.

Also, years ago, I wrote weekly devotionals called, “Coop’s Contemplation.” This devotional has the potential to become a book.
