INTERVIEW

Is There a Message in Your Novel That You Want Readers to Grasp?

The message is about first love. It's about that feeling you get when someone is interested in you and you just can't believe how lucky you are. The message is about recreating that first teenage love!

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

I can be verbose, so the challenge for me was making sure there was enough material without overdoing it.

How many books have you written and which is your favorite?

I've written two. This is my first. The next book in the trilogy is already written and I like that one more! I felt more free with the story because I already had the foundation so I had a lot of fun with it.

If You had the chance to cast your main character from Hollywood today, who would you pick and why?

I would say Nev should be cast by Ariel Winter. She can look very sweet and innocent, like Nev, she's pretty yet plain at the same time, and she is the same body type as Nev.

When did you begin writing?

I began as a little girl. I've always loved to write. I wrote this particular book in 2009 though.

How long did it take to complete your first book?

I wrote it in two weeks. I had the whole story in my head so I just sat and wrote until it was all on paper- or in the computer rather.

Did you have an author who inspired you to become a writer?

All of them! I'm a huge fan of Jodi Picoult and have been reading her books for years. I am always looking for her next novel.

What is your favorite part of the writing process?

Re-reading what I've written. It gives me the opportunity to look at what I've written and see if it makes sense. When I read, I see the book in my head- like I'm watching a movie. So when I'm re-reading my book, I watch the movie in my head and I like to see how it flows and if it's good enough to watch.

Describe your latest book in 4 words.

 First love. Forbidden romance.

Can you share a little bit about your current work or what is in the future for your writing?

The future is the next two books in the series. I didn't intend to create a trilogy at first but it played out that way so the second book is the continuing story of Nev and Achaiah and how their relationship changes. Achaiah really will do anything to protect Nev, even leave her if he feels that she is in danger by their love.

About the Author

Jacqueline Marinaro began her career as a therapist and college educator. Graduate school couldn’t stamp out her love of creative writing, however. Much to the chagrin of her husband, graduate school also only furthered her ability to constantly ask, “how does that make you feel?” Jacqueline lives in Florida with her wonderful husband and sweet little boy, where she enjoys the beach, reading, writing, and of course delving into the feelings of everyone she meets.
