Journeys can be long or short,
Dangerous or safe,
Topsy-turvy,
Bumpy, curvy
And wind a million ways.
Each one different, just like you, and special in its way.
Can you help Christian figure out
Which path to take today?
In this fun-to-read, rhyming picture book, we join Christian on his journey to find his friend. Along the way, we learn valuable lessons about thinking for ourselves and making good choices.
What was your main drive to write this book?
Writing books that lead
others, especially children, toward Jesus feels like my purpose in life. God
called me to write this book in 2005 when I was in Garden Valley, TX doing an
internship for Teen Mania Ministries. I sat down many times to try to write and
the words just felt forced. God's timing is perfect, and I had to experience
more of my own journey before I could successfully write Christian and the
Great Journey.
What do you hope readers will learn by reading this book?
I hope this book opens
discussions about the choices we make each day. It is important to be able to
think for oneself and not just follow the crowd. Finding Jesus is the most
important journey any of us make in life; it is the great journey. I hope this
book encourages everyone to stay on the narrow path, but know that when you find
yourself off track, you're never too far in the wrong direction to stop and
listen for God's voice to guide you back to Him.
Did you do much research when planning this book?
I had plenty of time to think about this book over the
years. I wrote down ideas and scriptures that were relevant to the story to
help me focus. I didn’t have to research much, because Christian and the
Great Journey is a journey of faith, which I experienced in my own life.
Did you have any main people who helped you in the process
of this book or influenced you to write it?
God is the main influence and help in writing this book.
Every person who encouraged me on my journey, like the butterfly in my story,
and every person who led me astray, like the snake in my story, played a part in
the process of writing Christian and the Great Journey.
How long did this book take you to write from initial
thought to hitting publish?
This book has been
something I've wanted to write for a very long time, since 2005. With God's
help, I finally wrote Christian and the Great Journey in March 2020. The
editing process only took a few weeks.
Do you have plans to write more about this topic or new
topics?
I'm
excited about my next book that is currently in the process of being published,
Christian the Worry Detective. It is a fun rhyming picture book, like Christian
and the Great Journey. When we meet Christian in this book, he uses detective
skills to conquer his fears and stop worry in its tracks.
I hope Christian the Worry Detective
will help kids and parents become worry detectives and find the true peace that
only comes from God.
