Blog Tour: What Kills Me by Wynne Channing

Today I will have an Review and Giveaway. First, let's get to know the Author!

Wynne Channing is an award-winning national newspaper reporter and young
adult novelist. She loves telling stories and as a journalist, she has interviewed
everyone from Daniel Radcliffe and Hugh Jackman to the president of the
Maldives and Duchess Sarah Ferguson. The closest she has come to interviewing
a vampire is sitting down with True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard (he didn’t bite).
She briefly considered calling her debut novel "Well" so then everyone would
say: "Well written by Wynne Channing."

An ancient prophecy warns of a girl destined to cause the extinction of the vampire
race.
So when 17-year-old Axelia falls into a sacred well filled with blood and emerges
a vampire, the immortal empire believes she is this legendary destroyer. Hunted
by soldiers and mercenaries, Axelia and her reluctant ally, the vampire bladesmith
Lucas, must battle to survive.
How will she convince the empire that she is just an innocent teenager-turned
bloodsucker and not a creature of destruction? And if she cannot, can a vampire
who is afraid of bugs summon the courage to fight a nation of immortals?

My Review:
Zee is in a new country and trying to acclimate. While out running errands, she gets lost on the streets and thankfully a young man helps her find her way home. Problem, she now has a curfew for being so late and can't make their date the following night. She leaves him a note hoping to meet up him during the day instead. A decision to rebel leaves Zee in more trouble than she could have ever imagined.

I feel like this story had a bit of a slow start while we were being introduced to everything. Yes, there was action and suspense, but it just didn't seem to flow quickly enough for me in the beginning. Once Zee is on the run and meets Lucas and his family, things really started to click for me.

Zee is a strong female lead and more determined than anyone would be in her situation. Lucas's reaction to her in the beginning I actually loved. Their banter really made for several light hearted moments in the middle of very dark times. Their relationship progression was very believable and I am so glad they didn't suffer from insta-love.

The ending of this story was a surprise to me. I was not expecting their entire adventure to lead them where it did, but I am very curious to see what happens next!
