Ghosts of the Big Thicket, Book Three

Southern Gothic, Mystery, Paranormal Women’s Fiction

Published: July 2021

Publisher: Zimbell House Publishing

The Whitfield Estate is hidden deep in the Big Thicket outside of Soda, Texas. This reclusive family brood amassed their oil and timber fortune over four generations, and now that it’s been done, they have become painfully aware of how isolated and broken they are as a family.

Tessa Nettles, fresh from college, is hired as the estate manager. But her main role is to help the youngest Whitfield, Caroline, have a more normal life. She has been cloistered away at Whitfield for the whole of her first fourteen years. Now, her oldest brother, Grayson, wants to make a happier life for her than he and his brother, Travis, had.

But first, what will he do about the strange lights that fall from the sky over the Trinity River, and their connection with the mysterious voices at the end of the road, the voices of entities that have secretly been Caroline’s only friends her whole life? But are these ghostly entities dangerous? And will they want Tessa gone from Whitfield?

Will Old Gullah Woman and Preacher Man be allowed to stay on in the rundown river cabin, stirring up the waters and calling down the mysterious lights? Or will the Whitfield matriarch run them off, even after their Gullah potions kept her husband alive two years longer than the doctors could have?

And will Tessa bring harmony to the estate, or set off a competition between the brothers that has the potential to destroy the Whitfields completely?

About The Author

Twyla Ellis is a descendent of pioneers who came to Texas in the 1840s, while Texas was still a Republic. She grew up roaming the dense pine forests in the Big Thicket around Livingston, Texas at the homes of her grandmother, great-aunts and uncles, and cousins. Her family was one of the founding families of Livingston, and her great-great-great-grandfather was the first city treasurer in the eighteen-forties. She fell in love with the haunting feel of the Thicket, its sounds, and sights, and smells. Her goal is to make people aware of the mystique of this novel part of Texas.

She holds a degree from Howard Payne University and had taught English and Music, and has been a member of NEA, TSTA, and TETA. She was a statewide officer and conference speaker with TETA (Texas English Teachers Association). She has run her own children’s party and event planning business, Parties by Twyla, as well as Remembrances Antiques and Gifts in the Houston area. She is certified in computer graphic design and free-lances in her spare time.

Nothing makes her happier than road trips with her family to interesting old Texas towns. She loves church, antiquing, fossil hunting with her husband and sons (they hunt, she writes), Big Bend, the Alamo (don’t all Texans?), exploring deserted buildings with a camera, and especially, the Big Thicket of deep East Texas.

If she had to give you a one-sentence bio of herself, she would probably say, “That obnoxiously joyful, hug-driven, southern relative that you’d like to hide in the attic, just might be me.”

Make Me Series, Book Three

Contemporary Romance

Date Published: July 30, 2021

Publisher: Renrut Publishing

Believe in second chances.

After his heart was broken by his first love, Kamden Stone avoided romantic entanglements. He lives in the moment, taking partners who understand his desires and know things will end after one encounter. He's comfortable with the life he's carved out for himself, refusing to need anyone or anything until a young woman he can't stop thinking about changes the game.

Everly Mason moved to escape toxic family ties. All she wants is a fresh start and a new life. The house left to her is the perfect place to fall, isolated and in the middle of nowhere, providing plenty of work to keep her occupied. She's on the right path, taking things one day at a time, when she's introduced to a mysterious man she can't stop thinking about.

Despite everything, Kamden and Everly can't deny their chemistry. When they agree to a trial period, curious to see where things will go between them, they discover they need each other in a way they never thought possible. When the time comes, they'll have to accept what they want and need. To be together, they both have to find a reason to make them stay.

Excerpt

"How old are you, Everly?"

Relief coursed through her. Was that the problem? She did look young for her age. She'd been told she'd appreciate that later in life. Did he think she was too young for him? If that was the issue, she could ease his concern. She was definitely of legal age.

"Twenty-two. I'll be twenty-three in March."

"I'm thirty-four." He made it sound like a bad thing.

She figured as much, although he could shave a couple of years and pass himself off as a younger man if he wanted to. "So?"

The response surprised him. "That doesn't bother you?"

The men she'd dated had been in their early twenties, and they hadn't left behind good impressions. Both had wanted to go to parties, hang out with their friends, and play video games. They were also complete slobs who lived off their parents, worked part-time jobs, and were lazy as hell. The only time they spent alone with her involved sex that, most of the time, didn't do anything for her. It was the reason she'd broken up with both of them within a year.

"No," she answered firmly, meaning it, "it doesn't."

He took that in, clutching the steering wheel. "It should bother you, darlin'."

It was the second time he'd called her that, meaning he had to have some kind of interest in her. For some reason, he didn't want to let things happen as they should, keeping himself distant and apart. She didn't know why, but she wasn't going to let him dodge her anymore.

"Don't tell me what should and shouldn't bother me. I'm a big girl, and I can make up my own mind. If that's the problem, I can tell you the age difference doesn't matter to me. It's just a number."

"You also don't know anything about me."

That much was true, but she wanted to. "Then tell me all about you."

His gaze darted to her, his fingers gripping the wheel tighter. "I'm not sure I should."

"You don't sprout fur and howl at the moon once a month, do you? Or go around drinking people's blood? If not, I think I'm good." Her attempt at humor worked. She could see him trying not to grin. "I don't frighten easily."

"I don't do that, but I can be beastly on occasion."

About The Author

Jane Colt began writing romances to deal with the stress of a ‘day job’ that’s mainly about examining the various ways people treat one another badly. An incurable romantic, her stories give her hope that we really can live happily ever after—even if only in our imaginations. She writes erotic romances because, having been raised in a morally rigid home, she wants to encourage in her readers a healthier, ‘sex positive’ outlook. She especially wants her heroines to be as sexy and passionate as they desire. You can count on the fact that her couples end up in love and having great sex! … OK, maybe they have the sex first!

Her stories aim to be light-hearted, fun, upbeat—and sexy! No dark, brooding, broken, tortured guys who need fixing. Just great, handsome, smart, sexy, ‘real men’ whose only weakness is being unable to resist the women she pairs them with. Think Lifetime or Hallmark movies plus hot sex!

She’s lived on both coasts of the U.S., recently leaving the beaches of Los Angeles to return home to the glorious autumn foliage of western Massachusetts. Married, she and her spouse are happy to be the devoted servants of two adorable cats. She loves traveling. Favorite cities: San Francisco, Boston, Venice, London, London, London!

By the way, anyone who knows her would be shocked to learn she writes erotic romances. “Jane Colt” is a pen name. So, shhhhhh.

Memoir

Date Published: November 4th 2021

Publisher: Acorn Publishing

photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

Clipped is a quirky memoir about a new mother whose desperation to get her baby to sleep catapulted her into becoming an inventor and small business owner—just before the world fell apart in 2008.

As a full-time mother and entrepreneur, Adrienne Alitowski rolled out her invention, blankyclip®, to over thirty stores in the Buy Buy Baby national chain. LA Parent Expecting and Kids Today both made blankyclip a “Top Pick''. The United States Patent and Trademark Office awarded her three utility patents and a trademark. All that fabulous glory aside, Adrienne also learned what it’s like to pee through a hole in the floor of a Chinese factory, and to be pregnant and throw up on the street just before an investor meeting. These experiences led her down a path to write this memoir about sticking to your vision and being open to finding gold in the muck.

About the Author

As an actress Adrienne Alitowski has appeared on Broadway and toured with the National Theatre of the Deaf. Her television credits include “Will & Grace,” “Just Shoot Me,” “Everybody Loves Raymond “ and “Beverly Hills 90210,” among others. She produced and co-wrote her one-woman show, Just Tell Them You’re From Scarsdale, which she performed in New York and Los Angeles. The short film she directed, produced and starred in, Grace, played in film festivals from Sarasota to Santa Cruz. She created, produced and performed in the celebrity benefit, Glen Mary Glen Rose: Women Do Men, in Los Angeles, which raised funds for breast cancer research as well as awareness around the lack of diverse roles for women. As a new mom, she invented, patented and manufactured blankyclip, a stroller accessory. She sold blankyclips nationally in Buy Buy Baby, as well as in many boutiques across the country and around the world. Her product was recognized as a Top Pick in publications such as Fit Pregnancy and LA Parent Magazine. At her children’s elementary school, she produced an annual fundraising talent show and wrote grants to provide creative writing programs. She sat on the Education Board of Temple Sinai in Glendale, CA for five years. She is the mother of two, and lives in Los Angeles with her family. Clipped is her first book.

Cover Reveal: We Never Knew Just What It Was... by Mike Murphey #promo #coverreveal #bookcover #nonfiction #comingsoon #rabtbooktours @BooksMurphey @PublishingAcorn @RABTBookTours

The Story of the Chad Mitchell Trio

Non-Fiction

Date to be Published: August 11th

Publisher: Acorn Publishing

Of all the groups to emerge during the folk era of the 1960’s, first the Chad Mitchell Trio and later The Mitchell Trio were unequivocally the best. Their complex harmonies, sense of comedic timing and stage presence were unique to the folk movement. They didn’t enjoy the commercial success of other groups because their material made political and social statements that radio and television refused to play. They were wildly popular, though, on college campuses throughout the country during this turbulent time and fostered political and social awareness among thousands of young men and women as they faced the challenging era ahead.

But as Mike, Chad and Joe Frazier raced along a frantic treadmill of rehearsals, recording sessions, nightclubs and concerts, Mike and Chad began to realize the demand for musical perfection was the only thing they had in common. Their personalities were and remain polar opposites. When Chad left in 1965, neither mourned the parting. John Denver replaced Chad. Two years later, Joe’s demons caught up to him forcing Mike and John to fire Joe.

When folk reunions became popular, fans and folk historians agreed that The Trio was the one group that would never take the stage again. Their schism was just too great.

Mike and Chad and Joe hadn’t spoken in twenty years. Then came a call. I will if he will. Their mentor and music director Milt Okun worried they were making a mistake. They couldn’t possibly be as good as their fans remembered.

They were. Mike and Chad kept their day jobs, and their distance. But once again, they shared the music.

Interview

Is There a Message in Your Novel That You Want Readers to Grasp?

Never trust anyone over twelve years old. Ever. Once a person has rounded that corner they lose their mind to pursuits that add no spark or value to a good life. Once the wonder and magic are gone, anyone thirteen or older becomes a predator.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Honestly, it’s all a lot of fun and very satisfying. While often challenging and not exactly filled with merriment, the entire process is a delight and I feel blessed when I enter my office each morning. For five or six hours each day, the real world is millions of miles away and I’m consumed by the story and my cast and their rare and strange and beautiful lives.

How many books have you written and which is your favorite?

I’ve completed twenty-nine novels and there are thirteen in print, which is why my publisher is working so hard to release three or four a year. Our goal is to get my back catalog in reader’s hands and eventually be releasing titles closer to their actual completion.

Each of the Danser novels is a daughter to me and while I don’t know a whole lot about parenting, I am just smart enough not to pick favorites. That said, I really look forward to the 2023 release of “Cream of the Wheat” because that work reveals so many of the original family members and their challenges and passions, most of which are criminal.

If You had the chance to cast your main character from Hollywood today, who would you pick and why?

I’m not up to speed with current film actors and actresses, having spent most of my time on film sets learning all that goes on behind the cameras, but I would hope the cast would come from the finer acting schools, where they would be well grounded in both the art and craft. I have a huge respect for the acting profession, having witnessed the preparation and study and experimenting the very best do in a tireless effort to bring a fictional character to life.

When did you begin writing?

In 1984, when I dove into the write of the first Danser novel, “Distractions.” Soon as I got to know some of the fictional family members, they pretty much pointed me to the typewriter and said, “We’ve got this. Just tap the keys.”

How long did it take to complete your first book?

You mean in the days of uncertainly and an insane number of drafts (Laughter)? About a year and a half. The story and the cast were solid, it was the monkey at the keyboard that needed to find his narrative voice. Once found, it was then simply a matter of trusting it, and letting it speak for itself.

Did you have an author who inspired you to become a writer?

Not one, but so many of the rule breakers. Somerset Maugham, Richard Brautigan, John Cheever, Truman Capote. J.D. Salinger and Peter S. Beagle were and are all inspiring. Each showed me the beauty and wonder of taking literary chances in an effort to share the rare beauty that their characters lived and breathed.

What is your favorite part of the writing process?

I do about three months of sketches before I start a book. These will often be about twenty thousand words of what I call Ingredients and The Skeleton. This is when I get to know my cast as well as develop the steely edges that are going to change and shape their lives. This writing is a blast because it’s a cyclone of imagination and research, when I never say no to anything, as long as it sets their world on fire.

Describe your latest book in 4 words.

Stay Away From Adults.

Can you share a little bit about your current work or what is in the future for your writing?

I’m one-third of the way into the first draft of  “Chas & Gomez.” This is Chas Danser’s third novel and he is a delight to work with. He’s seventeen and living a life of crime while also struggling to live with fugues brought about by his mom having cracked his skull with a baseball bat when he was seven. Ever wise and resourceful, he’s taking advantage of his spells of  disassociation by becoming, what else, a successful actor when not running from the law.
