Life today is scary, complicated, and hard to get right. So much conflicting information is at our fingertips, and society shows the results of everyone choosing their own version of "good."
This year-long daily devotional doesn't just talk about God; it takes us directly to God and His inspired words in the Bible. Many think the Bible is archaic and out of touch with life today. But you will discover in these devotionals that the Bible is a great read, full of real people in real time navigating real situations.
The Bible uncovers God's heart for us. He has given us tools and strength for our lives today. The Bible reveals God's patience and perspective. Most importantly, it leads us to Jesus, God's Son, and the plan that reconciled broken, imperfect people to God. Because Jesus paid the penalty for our wrong choices, we can live confidently-loved, empowered, and forgiven by God. Life today is scary, complicated, and hard to get right. So much conflicting information is at our fingertips, and society shows the results of everyone choosing their own version of "good."
Is There a Message in Your Novel That You Want Readers to Grasp?
“Seasons Under the Juniper Tree” is a devotional, but yes there is a
message! I want my readers to know that the Bible is a great read! And that it
isn’t archaic religion, but instead it reveals our real God’s relationship with
people. And these people were just ever day real individuals who were
successful and also made huge mistakes. I want people to start reading the
Bible on their own. That will enable them to thrive in this very hard life, as
well as to recognize if someone’s teaching is counter to what the Bible says.
All of that, of course, points to Jesus. I want people to know Jesus as
their savior.
Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
I was obsessed with not having any error in presenting the life stories
and teachings in the Bible. I knew I would never reach the depth of all that
God’s word holds, but I wanted what I said to be an accurate view of God, of
His character and of the situations in the Bible.
How many books have you written and which is your favorite?
I’ve written little stories for my kids as they were growing up, and
plays, Bible studies and devotionals for my church, but this is my very first
published book! So, this is my favorite!
If You had the chance to cast your main character from
Every week is a different person’s story. But I
love Jenna Fischer. She’s “girl next door,” very subtle with her humor, and
just incredibly likeable. And for a male lead, maybe Chris Pratt. Wholesome,
funny and likeable. Both are super talented.
When did you begin writing?
I began seriously writing in 2005.
How long did it take to complete your first book?
Two years. I was working
full time and had two of my three kids still at home and really active in school
and sports, and there was a ton of research to do.
Did you have an author who inspired you to become a writer?
I loved Max Lucado’s and Charles Swindoll’s writing styles. I also
learned a lot reading fictional books, as far as engaging and easy writing styles.
What is your favorite part of the writing process?
Discovering something I never knew in the Bible! I get so excited and I
think my passion comes out in my writing.
Describe your latest book in 4 words.
Real. Hopeful. Empowering. Equipping.
Can you share a little bit about your current work or what is in the
future for your writing?
Right now, I am an Area Coordinator for Moms in Prayer. Since the
pandemic we have been flooded with moms feeling the urgency to pray for their
kids and our schools. My job is helping to set up new prayer groups, or get new
moms plugged in to existing groups.
As far as books go, I’m trying to just be present for my very first
published book, “Seasons Under the Juniper Tree”. But I have been getting
little inspiring tingles for devotional number two!
