On launch day of NASA's long-awaited expedition to explore Jupiter's moon Europa, neuropsychiatrist Amanda wakes up from a coma after months battling acute meningitis. Along with two patients, they discover they are part of a growing puzzle involving an underground geopolitical corporation called The Firm, which plans to sabotage the mission, taking advantage of a new technology to hijack the ship and set a course to a habitable planet located seventeen light-years away from Earth.
Is There a Message in
Your Novel That You Want Readers to Grasp?
Absolutely - I think Intergalactica as a whole is a
reading experience designed to make you reflect. I would love for people to put
some actual thought into whether they think we are alone in the universe or
not.
Is there anything you
find particularly challenging in your writing?
These are not easy books to write -
they are not just sci-fi stories with high-fantasy concepts in them. I would
say the only constant in the whole series are the plot twists - and coming up
with turns that change the narrative completely is a LOT of work.
How many books have you
written and which is your favorite?
In
Portuguese, I have released a total of 8. Four of them are part of this series. I have a soft spot
for books 2 and 3, because I worked really hard on the twists for those.
If You had the chance
to cast your main character from Hollywood today, who would you pick
and why?
The
main character, Amanda, has always been based on actress Melinda Clarke.
(Nikita\The OC\Spawn).
When did you begin
writing?
I decided I
would be a writer at age 6 - haha. Once I was thirteen I was already working on
some scrapped projects.
How long did it take to
complete your first book?
Two years.
Did you have an author
who inspired you to become a writer?
C.S. Lewis.
What is your favorite
part of the writing process?
When you are stuck in a chapter and
then the right idea comes to your mind, it feels like opening up a dozen doors
in front of you. Not only do you get to solve the immediate problem, but you
usually also get some instant insight into how that idea will affect the whole
rest of the chapter.
Describe your latest
book in 4 words.
Trippy,
uplifting, thrilling and contemplative.
Can you share a little
bit about your current work or what is in the future for your writing?
I believe next up is adapting and translating
the next three volumes along with my American editor. We will see how it goes!
