Do you ever wonder if there is more to this life? Daniel did, even though he didn’t realize it. He was just a mild-mannered, teenage boy trying to deal with the challenges of a major move, the lack of friends at a new school, and the school bully who repeatedly attacked him. All he wanted was to get through school, immerse himself in his video games, and hope that life would somehow get better. Then he met the town’s matriarch who offered him something different—an alternate reality. Follow Daniel as he slips into realms beyond his own. He discovers that it takes faith to follow his destiny and learn the truth of his identity. He finds new friends, and together they discover the truth of Evil, its tactics for destruction, and its influence on the darkness of their world as they find themselves in the Dragon’s Den.

INTERVIEW

Is There a Message in Your Novel That You Want Readers to Grasp?

There is more to this world than what we see. There is a spiritual world we can open to and touch, more real than this world. It has an influence on this world, and we can have an influence on it. There is help in this other dimension. There is a dimension of evil around us, and we can’t survive if we decide to ignore it.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Defining the time to devote to the craft. Also, realizing it is more than just writing that makes it a craft, or rather a profession, and that family is my greatest desire and my greatest distraction.

How many books have you written and which is your favorite?

It is hard to answer this question because this is the first book I have written and published, so it is my favorite by default. I have written some poetry and had a few published different places. I was trying to write a series of cozy mysteries, but I would get to the part where someone would have to die, and I had trouble doing it. Maybe some day I will be able to really start it.

If You had the chance to cast your main character from Hollywood today, who would you pick and why?

I don’t know the answer to this. I didn’t have anyone in mind, and I was trying to keep the character neutral. Now as I was writing this first chapter and thinking about Gigi, I was trying to picture who she might be, and Betty White came to mind. She has that tenacity and strong will about her.

When did you begin writing?

In creative writing class in High School. I wrote a story about an alien abduction of two young teenagers in a small town that ended with the two boys hiding out in a cabin, laughing at the gullibility of their little town and its hysteria. I made an A. Yet, in a family of left brain, engineers, writing wasn’t a consideration for a career. So, I have spent the better part of 60 years trying to figure out what I wanted to do when I grew up. I think I found it.

How long did it take to complete your first book?

I have had this concept for well over 10 years. It initially started because of something that bothered me about the world. As the pieces came together it morphed into something completely different.

Did you have an author who inspired you to become a writer?

Of course, I loved JRR Tolkien, and CJ Lewis’ ‘Narnia’. I was a hugh Star Trek and Star Wars fan. Later in life, I soaked up Diane Mott Davidson’s series. I also began reading young adult books like ‘Aragon’. I love mystery, fantasy and adventure. I also love stories with common people doing extraordinary things, learning they are capable of so much more.

What is your favorite part of the writing process?

The imagining. I can sit in my comfy chair and dream about characters and their journeys. My dreams come in story format. I love the conflict and the resolution along with the surprises. My problem is getting the adventures on paper to share with others.

Describe your latest book in 4 words.

Adventure, Mystery, Fun, Truth

Can you share a little bit about your current work or what is in the future for your writing?

Since ‘Into the Dragon’s Den’ is a trilogy, my current work is the second book, ‘Through the Dragon’s Den’. ‘Into the Dragon’s Den’ is a step into the spirit world, a vision of our true battle grounds, a picture of the Soul if you like. It is a Christian story with a secular slant. ‘Through the Dragon’s Den’ is a broader picture of the effect of evil on our spiritual world and how to battle in the spirit realm, our soulish realm. The third book brings it all back to this reality as Daniel will be required to face the evil around him, ‘Beyond the Dragon’s Den’. It then ends with a little surprise.

After that I may try again at the Bay Grove Murder Mysteries. I have an idea of the plot. I’m just struggling with the characters and that I will have to kill one of the off.

About the Author

I was born in a sleepy suburb of Houston, Texas, at a time when televisions weren't common in every home, phones had wires, and people surfed only at the beach. I didn't know what I could become, so I watched the world go by. I married my banker boss, had two children, welcomed three grandchildren, and researched a variety of topics such as history, politics, religion, physics, space, medicine, and the human condition. Mostly I like telling stories. I am still in that same town, watching things and telling stories.
