Outraged when The Post Gazette overlooks him for a promotion, 43-year-old Sportswriter Christian Kane quits the Paper and moves to the country to write fiction. Inspiration flows from a grave he stumbles upon in the woods. He pens The Legend of Rachel Petersen, a fascinating story revolving around the dead twelve-year-old girl who was laid to rest beneath the weathered tombstone in 1863. His book climbs the Best Seller lists; then Hollywood adapts it into a blockbuster movie. Kane becomes rich and famous; but then! Does an enraged Rachel become more than a figment of the writer’s imagination and rise from her grave, seeking revenge on him for slandering her name?
Is
There a Message in Your Novel, The Legend of Rachel Petersen, That You Want
Readers to Grasp?
No
messages, just a great story.
Is
there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Keeping
the tenses correct.
How
many books have you written and which is your favorite?
Just
this one, The Legend of Rachel Petersen, but I am writing another story.
If
You had the chance to cast your main character from Hollywood today,
who would you pick and why?
Mathew
McConaughey to play Christian Kane, the main protagonist, because he’s so good
looking, tall, and athletic.
When
did you begin writing?
I’ve
always liked word puzzles and scrabble; and in school, I was the weird kid who
liked essay questions. However, I didn’t write my first book till I was in my
early fifties.
How
long did it take to complete your first book?
Between
work, family, and trying to write a book, this novel took a good two years to
complete.
Did
you have an author who inspired you to become a writer?
My favorite authors are John Steinbeck, Mark Twain,
and Harold Robbins because they wrote stories that were interesting.
What
is your favorite part of the writing process?
Typing
the words, The End! Seriously, completing a well written book.
Describe
your latest book in 4 words.
Unique.
Interesting. Whodunit. Wow!
Can
you share a little bit about your current work or what is in the future for
your writing?
This story, Tell Me about Your Childhood, is totally
different and unique. It is told through the eyes of a narrator who remains
mysterious and anonymous till the final pages. The plot revolves around a very
wealthy attorney and a manipulative psychologist; both men share a secret and
join forces to rule the world, but one of them has a dark, hidden agenda.
Living in Western Pennsylvania all my life, I’ve been an avid Whitetail hunter since old enough to tote a rifle, which is also about as long as I’ve had a fondness for word games and literature.
While hunting one year, I actually did stumble upon a weathered tombstone in the middle of the woods.
While waiting patiently for that big buck to cross my path, I had plenty of time to ponder the dead girl's fate, which I was then driven to write.
Eerily enough, this is the premise of The Legend of Rachel Petersen, my first novel published in 2012, which I recently revised.
A newly retired transformer repairman, I refer to Johnstown, Pennsylvania, a small town outside of Pittsburgh, as home.
My wife Becky and I share our abode with two retrievers - Piper, and Remmy.
