All Armand wants is to share his life with his girlfriend Vonnie. But money is tight, their relationship is fizzling, and not even a monster-hunting side gig is paying off.
When a mysterious drifter named Mr. Penny-Farthing blows into town on his antique high-wheeler, Armand thinks his troubles are over. Penny-Farthing offers Armand and Vonnie enough money to cover their expenses with one condition: they must find and return the soul of a serial killer who escaped Hell.
Completing Penny-Farthing’s contract won’t be easy when demons appear all over the city and bodies start piling up. Overwhelmed and pushed to the brink, Armand realizes his greatest fear isn’t demons or shadowy murderers: it’s losing Vonnie forever. Can Armand stop a killer and keep the woman he loves, or will Hell take everything from him?
Nail-biting and visceral, Mr. Penny-Farthing is a high-octane horror story about escaping your comfort zone while fighting for love.
Is there a message in your novel that you want readers
to grasp?
Don’t
take love for granted. If something doesn’t feel right in your life, it
probably needs addressing. Also, communicate in your relationships and be
honest with each other.
Is there anything you find particularly
challenging in your writing?
Creating plotlines and
story arcs that keep readers riveted. Writing believable, relatable characters
your readers can identify with or at the very least root for.
How many books have you written and which is your
favorite?
I’ve written several
books, mostly manuscripts that are trunked and will never see the light of day. I’ve
published three novels: Accursed Son,
Midnight at Bat Hollow, and Mr. Penny-Farthing. Accursed Son is my first novel and my favorite by far.
If you had the chance to cast your main character
from Hollywood today, who would you pick and why?
I’ve given this some
thought. If Accursed Son ever became
a movie or series, I’d want the following cast: Joe Manganiello (Armand
Tarkaian), Gabrielle Dennis (Vonnie Hudgens), Michael Poghosyan (Berj
Manoogian), Ken Davitian (Hagop Tarkanian), Simon Abkarian (Uncle George),
Jackie Kashian (Aunt Miriam), David Dastmalchian (Roupen Tarkanian), Marco Khan
(Gor), Angela Sarafyan (Spandaramet).
When did you begin writing?
My high school had a
literary magazine called Demogorgon. I
contributed my work. A few poems and short stories. That was my first
introduction to publication.
How long did it take to complete your first book?
Accursed Son was my grad school project. It took me two years to write and polish
before it was ready. If you’re writing a book, you’re in for the long haul. Get
comfy with your manuscript because you’ll be reading it over and over for
months.
Did you have an author who inspired you to become
a writer?
I’d
say Kurt Vonnegut, Douglas Adams, Neil Gaiman, Stephen King, and Chuck Wendig
nudged me towards writing and improving my writing craft.
What is your favorite part of the writing
process?
Typing “The End.”
Really, it’s finishing what I started, which rarely happens in the writing
world. So many novice writers are frightened by the prospect of finishing their
work that they halt completely. If you’re a writer and you finished writing a
story, you did what so many couldn’t. You’re a courageous scribe and should be
lauded with a ticker-tape parade. Or maybe coffee and a donut. Feel the
satisfaction from finishing that first draft!
Describe your latest book in 4 words.
Demon
slaying power couple.
Can you share a little bit about your current
work or what is in the future for your writing?
I submitted a
cosmic horror sunshine noir manuscript to my publisher. It’s about a newspaper
reporter in the 1960s who’s investigating the murder of his ex-girlfriend. It’s
truly warped and disturbing and I had fun forging the nightmares. It’s
undergoing edits now and has a June 24 release date.
