Interview
Is There a
Message in Your Novel That You Want Readers to Grasp?
In
Moose Ridge: Ending To Beginning, the message is an ending doesn’t have to be
an end. It can also be a beginning.
Is there
anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Commas.
No, seriously. There is no rhyme or reason to them. But that’s probably not
what you’re asking. It’s always a challenge for me to get the level of detail
correct. I want to paint the picture for the reader but not dictate everything
so they can imagine it their way, yet there has to be enough to start their
imagination flowing.
How many
books have you written and which is your favorite?
This
is my first published book, but I have several others completed. My second
book, Love Or Lies, was release on Jan 31st. I also have a spy
action/adventure coming out later this year and the 2nd book in the
Moose Ridge series that I’m working to get published. Then there are several more
that fall into the Work in Progress area. I always have several I’m working on.
If You had
the chance to cast your main character from Hollywood today, who would you pick and why?
Now this is not easy, but Lacy Chabert or Brooke D’Orsay might
be interesting choices.
When
did you begin writing?
It
was around 2015 when I first got serious about writing a book. While that book
has not been published yet, it did allow me to learn quite a lot about myself
and writing. Of course, I’m still learning and who knows, some day that first
book might be published still.
How long
did it take to complete your first book?
About
2 months for the first draft, Then years of edits and revisions after that. Multiple
beta-readers and a few editors thrown in for fun. At least that’s what they
called it. During this time ideas for other books formed as well, which led to this,
my first published book.
Did you
have an author who inspired you to become a writer?
Oh, there are many.
From Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Robert Ludlum, and John Grisham, to Francena
Arnold, Jack Higgins, and Tom Clancy.
What is
your favorite part of the writing process?
The
actual writing, especially the first draft. It is exciting to see the story come
together. I’m what they call a pantser, as I don’t do an outline. I let the
story come to me as I write. This doesn’t work for everyone, but it does for
me. That’s what’s important. Find out what works for you and go with it.
Describe
your latest book in 4 words.
Endings aren’t the end
Can you
share a little bit about your current work or what is in the future for your
writing?
My newest book, Love Or Lies, was
released on January 31st. It’s a Christian Romance, about El, who takes an emotional journey of
self-discovery and faith to make sense of her past and look beyond the lies
she’s been told. It explores what it means to rediscover a connection with God
and to unlock the true power of love.
Then I have a spy
action/adventure, Unmasking Bonaparte, coming out later this year. It’s about a
CIA duo, Samantha (Sam) and Robert, tracking down a notorious international
assassin in New York City before they can complete their current contract. But
they don’t know what the assassin looks like, when the hit will take place, or
who the target is, plus they can’t let anyone know they’re CIA. But hey, its
New York City, how hard can it be?
I’m also working to get the second
book in the Moose Ridge series published so we can find out what’s next for
Jazmine.
About the Author
Born in Muncie, IN, Craig is as typical middle-America as they come. He was young when his parents divorced and his grandmother came to live with him, his mother, and two sisters. Seeing his grandmother’s faith in God on a regular basis led him to accept and know everything is okay, God’s in charge.
Craig served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force and followed this as a DoD contractor where he had multiple tours overseas and around the U.S. While there were events in his life that tested his faith in God, nothing compared to when his first son was born with major medical issues. As a twenty-one-year-old father with a young devastated wife, his faith had never been tested more. After enduring several surgeries, some considered experimental, his son passed away at six months and two weeks. But even in his brief life, he had a tremendous impact on Craig and others.
Since then, God has blessed Craig with two more sons and has been a constant guidance in his life. Craig’s time in the military and as a contractor afterward included over 20 years overseas, where he was part of local mission churches. On their last return to the states, God led him and his wife to Oklahoma, where he teaches Bible studies and serves in a local church.
The memory of what God did to help him through his parent’s divorce, his son’s illness and death, and many other events in his life, has led him to want to share what impact God had and has with him.
Nowhere are we promised a life without tragedies, setbacks, problems, or devastating events we have no control over, but God’s word does promise, ‘It’s okay, God’s in charge.’
