Middle school teacher and amateur historian, Joe Staunch, likes everyone in smalltown, Herd, Montana. Except for Abby Whit. He can’t quite pinpoint what annoys him so much, besides the unnerving feeling she is lying to him and everyone in their close-knit community.

Food truck owner, Abby Whit has a secret. The descendant of the infamous Whittier family, she never meant to settle in town under an alias, but she can’t imagine living anywhere else. Time is running out to claim her property, and she is unsure how to do so without upsetting everyone and ruining her life.

How does she come clean without destroying her newfound love? And can love survive a lie?

INTERVIEW

Is There a Message in Your Novel That You Want Readers to Grasp?

The message of this book is to beware of bias.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Writing a break-up scene is always the hardest part! I want these two to be happy but first they have to overcome some major obstacles to find the lasting love they deserve.

How many books have you written and which is your favorite?

I’ve published fourteen (many more written) and my favorite is always the one I’m brainstorming. A novel is completely perfect when it just exists in the author’s mind. Then it’s a mess and through the help of editors it becomes something better but never as perfect as the idea.

If You had the chance to cast your main character from Hollywood today, who would you pick and why?

I would pick any of the current Hallmark Channel leads. Chris McNally,

When did you begin writing?

I’ve been writing since childhood. I was the kid that would play alone in her room for hours and be completely content. My mom has bins full of my old notebooks.

How long did it take to complete your first book?

My first novel took over a year (and was a disaster). Luckily, I’ve gotten better.

Did you have an author who inspired you to become a writer?

I’ve always loved storytelling and reading. But I was inspired to go after my dream of becoming a published author after I became a mom. I want my kids to see me working hard for my dreams.

What is your favorite part of the writing process?

Editing! I love working with beta readers and editors to refine and reshape a manuscript.

Describe your latest book in 4 words.

Ohh! I’ll do a phrase:

Honesty isn’t always best

Can you share a little bit about your current work or what is in the future for your writing?

Currently I’m editing two books in my Shores of Loon Lake series. These books are romances with a hint of mystery. If you love small town, quirky side characters, and shenanigans, these are the books for you! The Ghost of Loon Lake is available now. (I say perfect for fans of Pysch and Gilmore Girls, I’ll add it’s a great one for adult fans of Gravity Falls too!)
