Your twenties and thirties are packed with big decisions, bigger
emotions, and the pressure to somehow have life all figured out. But what if
you didn’t have to learn every lesson the hard way?
In You Got This!, personal and professional development coach Lisa Bartley
shares candid advice and empowering mindset shifts—through sharp
honesty, laugh-out-loud moments, and the kind of wisdom that only comes with
experience. Bartley tackles what no one prepares you for—setting
boundaries, navigating relationships, rebounding from failure, and finding the
courage to go after what you really want.
This is not a guide to becoming perfect. It’s a guide to becoming
powerful on your terms.
If you’ve ever felt stuck or like everyone but you got the memo on
adulthood, this book is your reminder that growth is messy, clarity takes
time, and no, you’re not behind . . . you’re just getting started.
You Got This! is a must-read for every woman standing at the threshold of the
rest of her life. It’s the permission slip, pep talk, and playbook every
woman needs while figuring it all out.
Interview
What was your main drive to write this book?
The idea for the book was inspired by the birth of my (now) 28-year-old daughter. When she was a baby, I started jotting down thoughts—life lessons—that I knew would be important later in life. This would be a gift to my daughter. One day, I realized this “gift” had book potential. Women just like her—in the throes of life-defining decisions—could benefit from practical generational guidance, along with the assurance, You Got This!
What do you hope readers will learn by reading this book?
After reading You Got This!, I hope readers learn to navigate relationships, boundaries, disappointments, and their dreams with greater confidence and clarity. More than anything, I hope they begin to trust their own strength. I want them to feel better equipped and empowered to make smart choices today rather than wish for a do-over tomorrow. Ultimately, I hope they step into the best version of themselves with confidence, optimism, and the unwavering belief that You Got This!
Did you do much research when planning this book?
Since the book is largely experience-based, there wasn’t a significant amount of formal research. That said, I did go back to verify certain details and find articles and studies that supported some of the key points I was making.
Did you have any main people who helped you in the process of this book or influenced you to write it?
My daughter was the inspiration behind You Got This! Friends, family, and my own personal experiences all influenced the content, as the book is very story and insight driven.
How long did this book take you to write from initial thought to hitting publish?
My “book baby” was an on-again, off-again, project for many years. Then, I got serious about it two and a half years ago. From initial thought to publication date: About 28 years.
Do you have plans to write more about this topic or new topics?
Yes! Like You Got This!, I’ll be writing my next two books with a female audience in mind, building on The Five Pillars of Empowerment™--confidence, courage, assertiveness, resilience, and self-acceptance—that were sprinkled throughout this book.
