Is there a single path that can reach both the lukewarm believer and the skeptical non-believer? Beyond the Broad Path argues that there is. This book speaks to believers who have grown complacent, calling them back to their role as salt and light, while also inviting non-believers into an honest exploration that assumes no prior faith or biblical knowledge.
Grounded in today’s fractured cultural landscape, the book confronts the search for truth in a world of distraction, division, and digital isolation—not to condemn, but to reveal what these forces are replacing in the human heart. From there, it leads the reader to life’s ultimate crossroads and presents the only solution – Jesus Christ.
With fresh clarity, this book makes the case that Christ’s message is not outdated, but radically relevant—offering redemption, lasting joy, and peace that cuts through chaos. Drawing from Matthew 7:13–14, readers are challenged to recognize that time is finite and the choice of which road to walk is unavoidable.
If you are ready to trade anxiety for certainty and the noise of the world for the assurance of God’s truth, turn the page. The journey toward the narrow way begins now.
What was your main drive to write this book?
I’ve spent much of my professional life doing technical writing for aviation
safety—which is all about precision and guiding people safely to their
destination. But about 15 years ago, I founded Life Beyond Horizons
ministry because I wanted to write about a different kind of journey: our walk
of faith in a complex world.
As the ministry grew, I was interviewed on a nationally syndicated radio
show. Afterward, the host looked at my essays and asked me, 'When are you
going to write a book?' That question was the catalyst. I realized people
didn't just want bite-sized essays; they wanted a deeper roadmap. Beyond the
Broad Path was born out of that drive to help readers step off the easy,
crowded highways of culture and find a more intentional, meaningful faith.
What do you hope readers will learn by reading this book?
I want readers to realize that faith isn’t about a rigid system of rules;
it’s about a relationship with a Creator who loves them. Beyond the Broad
Path is structured as a journey. We start in the trenches of real-world
doubt, examining a confrontation I had with an atheist, and move toward the
core of what I call “simply Christ.”
I offer encouragement to believers, first for those that have become
distracted or have lost sight of their relationship with God, to step out of
complacency and back into a vibrant, daily walk with the Lord, while also
celebrating those that are being that “salt and light” in this chaotic world.
At the same time, I want skeptics to see a side of Jesus they might not have
encountered in modern church culture. The Bible talks about two paths: a broad
one that leads to destruction, and a narrow one that leads to life. I hope this
book gives every reader the coordinates they need to find that narrow path and
make an intentional choice to open the door to Him.
Did you do much research when planning this book?
My research process is actually quite unique because of my day job. I’ve
spent over 40 years in the aviation industry, with the last 15 of those working
out of our headquarters division in Washington, D.C. In aviation safety and
technical training, you have to be incredibly analytical - you look at the
data, strip away assumptions, and find the absolute truth because lives depend
on it.
I took that exact same investigative, rigorous approach and applied it to
decades of studying God's Word. For this book, I didn’t just want to share
superficial thoughts; I wanted to deeply analyze the scriptures,
cross-reference them, and see how they apply to the chaos of our modern world.
The result is a book that doesn't just ask you to believe blindly but lays out
a well-researched case for why the gospel is true, reliable, and relevant
today.
Did you have any main people who helped you in the process
of this book or influenced you to write it?
It really is a culmination of a lifetime of incredible examples, but if I
had to point to where the spark started, it was my childhood pastor. When I was
young, he always took the time to truly listen to me and model the love of
Christ through his actions, not just his words. He showed me what a life of
faith looked like up close.
Beyond that, this book is heavily influenced by the unsung heroes of the
church and beyond, the countless volunteers I’ve worked alongside in ministry
for decades. Their quiet dedication and everyday faith taught me what it means
to walk the narrow road. So, while my name is on the cover, Beyond the Broad
Path is really a tribute to all those believers who poured into my life and
showed me how to live out the gospel in real time.
How long did this book take you to write from initial
thought to hitting publish?
From the very first spark of an idea to hitting publish, it was a multi-year
journey. The foundation was laid over 15 years of ministry work and writing
short-form essays on faith.
However, the transition from concept to book required a much more
disciplined focus. Once I committed to the project, the actual writing,
editing, and publishing process took about two years of dedicated work. I
wanted to ensure that Beyond the Broad Path wasn't just a collection of
random thoughts, but a seamless, carefully developed roadmap for the reader. It
took time, but I believe the depth of the final product reflects that patience.
Also, having a team of very talented editors with my publisher, Lucid Books,
helped move the transcript from draft to a very polished finished product.
Do you have plans to write more about this topic or new
topics?
Yes, absolutely. I’m already deep into the next chapter of this journey. While
Beyond the Broad Path establishes the roadmap for our faith, my next
book focuses on how to defend that ground. I am currently developing a book
that looks at the very real spiritual battles we all face daily.
I like to look at it through a historical lens. During World War II, General
George Patton intensely studied the memoirs and tactics of his adversary,
German General Rommel, because he knew that to defeat his enemy, he had to
understand how he operated. That’s the approach I’m taking. We have a real
spiritual adversary, but my goal isn’t to give him the spotlight or feed his
pride. It's to expose his tactics so that believers can recognize the traps and
stand firm. I’m deep in the writing process right now and hoping to bring it to
print next year.
